Carolyn Carleton Browe has been handweaving rugs and carpets for the interior design trade for 37 years. Raised on her family’s 8th-generation farm in Connecticut, she and her sister taught themselves spinning, dyeing and weaving with the wool from their father’s sheep. Studies in natural and chemical dyeing and weaving in the SF Bay Area broadened her knowledge and in 1980, her rug weaving studio, Carleton Designs, was launched in collaboration with her late husband, Vincent Carleton. In the last 5 years, Carolyn has also been exploring floor-covering designs in wool felt. Today her rugs are represented by interior design showrooms in San Francisco, New York and Chicago and locally in Partners Gallery in Ft. Bragg.
