Gardening without Rules - 50 years of lessons

I've been gardening continuously since 1968, all seasons. That adds up to 100 gardens. Winter gardens produce a lot of food here. As a nurseryman, I've produced about 100,000 grafted fruit trees. I have scaled back to 100 yards of 3-foot-wide garden beds, and about 100 fruit trees & vines. This is all for home use and preservation, and research. I'm not an organic fundamentalist. I am a scientist, and a nurse, so I go by my observation of the plant growth. Almost everything is trellised or cloched and on timed irrigation. I’ve learned a few tricks, and I will share them with you.
