Basketmaking

You will be guided in how to cross and secure center spokes of rattan or similar natural fiber. Then you learn to twine around the bottom before "upsetting" the basket to weave up the sides. Next we finish off the border and then fasten on a handle . To prepare for class you may start cutting and drying any vines or stems from the plants in your garden. If they don't break when green, they can be dried, then soaked in water before using. Vines include wisteria, passionflower, ivy, clematis and wild grape. Flowers include long stem scabiosa and daisies. Use what is long, thin and strong. Class materials fee $10. Tools to bring: awl and side cutter
